Ben Böhmer: “Bloom Symbolizes a Kind Of Musical Growth And Diversity”

The highly anticipated tour of Ben Böhmer kicked off with an electrifying, sold-out show in Brisbane, marking the beginning of his Australian journey this October. Presented by Untitled Group, the tour brings Ben’s third album, Bloom, to life in a live setting, captivating audiences with his signature blend of emotion and sound. As a producer who has spent over a decade refining his craft, Bloom represents a fresh chapter for Ben, embracing his improvisational roots and deeper artistic vision. With all shows sold out, including stops in Sydney and Melbourne, our Loudlife crew couldn’t miss the chance to catch up with Ben and stopped him for an exclusive interview.

Interview with Ben Böhmer:

Alright, so here we are with Ben Böhmer. He’s a German artist, now starting his Bloom tour here in Australia, kicking it off in Brisbane. How are you feeling about it?

I’m very excited. It’s the very first show of the tour. I just came out, and it feels great to be back here.

Is there something you like to do at the start of your shows? Do you have any rituals?

There are a few rituals. One thing we’ve been doing over the last few years is listening to the song from TLC ‘Waterfalls’ and singing the chorus together with the crew right before we go on stage. It really gets us in the right mood.

I see, nice. Since you’re starting today in Brisbane, which other cities are you looking forward to playing?

I will also play in Sydney and Melbourne. That’s it for the Australian tour, which is super exciting. Then I will go to Europe, play in North America, and do an Asia tour.

I see. So it’s not just an Australian tour, it will continue worldwide. Wonderful! Besides performing at your shows, are there any typical Australian things you’re looking forward to doing?

The last time I was here, I had some really nice hikes. The nature here is unmatched—it’s wonderful. However, I’m afraid this time there won’t be time for anything else besides traveling and playing shows.

Maybe a little bit of surfing. 🙂

No time for that as well.

We’d like to know a little more about your album Bloom. Is it connected to personal growth, or are you just a fan of gardening? You know, like blooming flowers?

This album is a bit of a balance for me after an intense phase of touring following my first two albums. I was feeling a bit burned out musically, mentally, and physically. So, I took a step back and spent a lot of time in nature. I had a small studio in the middle of nowhere, in the northern Italian Alps, surrounded by nothing but mountains. That’s where most of the album’s songs were written. It’s very much inspired by nature, and Bloom symbolizes a kind of musical growth and diversity

You’ve been on the scene for a long time now. Could you tell us if there’s a memory from a show—something crazy you’ve seen—that you just can’t stop laughing about?

Ah, there are always moments like that, but something happened recently that really surprised me—it was amazing to see. I was playing a song called Rain from the new album, and before it was even released, I played a show in Prague. We saw that some people had already tattooed the lyrics. I had played the song at a festival the previous year, and they remembered it and got the lyrics tattooed, then showed it to us afterward. That’s pretty crazy, especially since the song wasn’t even released yet!

How did they know?

Well, they heard it at the festival I played earlier. It was an unreleased song. That’s wild, right?

It’s really crazy. But that’s a great fan base, isn’t it?

Absolutely, it’s lovely.
