Cafius is a classically trained drummer, musician, and sound producer, frequent guest at various techno festivals and clubs all over the world. Cafius started with a release featuring singer Philip Strand on the Selected label with the song “Boom Boom”, which accumulated 4 million streams on Spotify. He is a DJ with a special musical vision in Indie Dance/ House & Techno.
Interview with Cafius
LL: Hi CAFIUS, how’s it going? Thank you for accepting our invitation for this interview.
Hi! I’m doing well, thank you. I’m glad to be here, and thank you for inviting me for thе interview.
LL: Last week, you released your EP on the world-renowned label Diynamic, led by the legendary Solomun. How does it feel to have the support of such an icon? Was this always the goal you were aiming for?
Actually I’ve followed Solomun’s music and his label for a long time—he’s a huge artist and a role model for me. My first track, *Catan*, was released on a compilation with Diynamic in March 2023. A few months later, I was invited by his team to perform alongside Solomun at a festival in Bucharest, which was incredible. Seeing him perform an all-night-long set in person was beyond inspiring.
A little over a year later, I was able to produce tracks that Mladen approved for my solo EP on Diynamic.
I see Solomun not only as an Icon but also as a native soul , I share his musical views that music should primarily bring people together.
LL: Which of these tracks is your favorite, and which one took the least time to create?
Lost Time is definitely my favorite track. I actually wrote it in just two hours. After finishing it, I sent it to Solomun, and some time later, he replied with feedback, suggesting I replace the vocals with a few vocal punches to make it stronger. I took his advice, and now it’s the title track on the EP.
LL: We know you’re hard at work on your production every day. Can we expect any releases later this year, or possibly early next year?
Yes, I have two upcoming releases—one on Octopus Recordings, SIAN’s label, and another on PETS Recordings, the label run by Catz ‘n Dogz.
LL: How would you define your sound, and who are your biggest influences at the moment?
Right now, I’m really into Max Styler—his production is incredible. I’m also inspired by the guys from Clüb De Combat; they have a unique way of presenting their music. And I recently discovered Flowdan, an amazing MC—I’d love to collaborate with him on a track someday!
LL: What is your current goal in the music world?
My goal is to share my music with as many people as possible. I’d love to build my own community, create a label, and eventually host showcases for festivals and performances.
LL: Are you more a DJ or a producer?
I’ve been DJing for over ten years, and I’ve spent just as much time producing music. For me, these two roles are inseparable. I produce music to share my vision, and DJing lets me bring that vision to audiences around the world.
LL: If you could choose anyone for a dream collab—whether a producer, singer, or band—who would it be?
I’d love to work with Christian Burns; his melodic vocals would bring a magical, energetic vibe to a track. I’d also be thrilled to collaborate with Solomun – their style is so versatile and limitless, which I really admire.
LL: What’s your go-to way to relax outside of music?
Lately, I’ve been spending a lot of time swimming—it’s great for relaxing my back and gives my body a good workout. I also enjoy quality time with my wife and kids. Being with them recharges me and gives me the energy to keep creating music.
LL: What can we expect from you in 2025?
2025 is shaping up to be an exciting year for my music career. I’m eager to continue producing fresh tracks and have my sights set on releasing them on a few prestigious labels. Additionally, I’m diving headfirst into the world of booking, aiming to connect with more audiences and bring my music to a wider range of listeners.
