Adam Beyer: The EDM Era Is Over, Club Culture Is Back Again.

The founder of the record label Drumcode, Adam Beyer, came to Prague’s Roxy club and it’s an incredible honor to meet such a techno legend.

How are you, Adam?

I’m very well, how are you?

I am pretty excited because you are my favorite one and I’m glad you came to Prague to play at the Roxy, it’s amazing to have you here after so many years, are you glad to be back?

Of course, I was last here before the pandemic, to meet a Czech crowd again.

You are headlining huge festivals worldwide and tonight you will stand again after years at the most popular club in Prague Roxy.

How does it feel for you to be closer to your fans and perform at such an intimate venue?

I mean playing for smaller crowds is always slightly different in times of the connection to them. You are closer to what’s happening on the dance floor and the people and I think that club culture is a little bit at the revival again which is nice to see. I think during the big EDM years, club culture died a little bit and now the EDM phase is over it seems that people love going out clubbing again and it’s important because that’s where the community grows and local DJs play and everything. Clubs are very important so that’s why I have also decided to play a little bit more clubs again to support.

As an artist who’s been active for several decades, how do you keep your passion for music alive and stay inspired to create and hold your position on the top?

I think the music is keeping me going, I still find it very exciting, to be honest, I like to work on my label, go out and play, and just live this lifestyle, traveling and playing music. It’s a fast-changing scene and also interesting because you never really know what the next thing is going to be, so there is something new around the corner.

What’s your favorite production on Drumcode, do you have a personal favorite track?

That’s a difficult question. Drumcode is turning 28 years old next year, so there are some milestones in the catalog, that mean different things to me. But from an egoistic standpoint, I think “Your Mind” was the one! That’s my most dreamed track I guess. At least in the later part of this journey but there are so many others. I worked with some legends I grew up with like Joey Beltram, or Carl Cox, and have them on my label after being young and going out and being a fan by myself and then one day working with these guys it’s also amazing and there are so many stories. Also to be able to help people like Joseph Capriati, Alan Fitzpatrick, Enrico Sangiuliano, and all these guys to have a massive career and I was at the beginning of their career, that means a lot to me.

You are talking about big stars, but what about the newcomers from the Drumcode label we should be aware of?

I think one who does make a sound for herself is Mha Iri she did one EP, two tracks, and two different compilations this year and they all have been hugely popular she seems to be rising fast, she makes a bit harder techno, but still with the funk and it is quite innovative style. We have another EP from her in April. I have also signed Massano, which is slightly different, it is a little bit melodic but it’s still harder melodic stuff, not exactly like Afterlife, so it’s also going to be interesting to see it on the label. I am trying to keep up with the time and what is going on.

Do you have any loud shout-outs for Roxy Prague?

It’s just nice to be here, I am honored to be here again and I can’t wait to meet a crowd on the floor tonight
