UNESCO has recently expanded the list of intangible cultural heritage in Germany by including six new elements, one of which is Berlin’s techno scene. This addition aims to safeguard and protect cultural traditions through the intangible cultural heritage designation.
Berlin’s techno scene has officially been recognized as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH), marking a significant achievement for the city’s Clubcommission. The campaign to include Berlin’s techno and club culture on the prestigious list has been ongoing for over ten years. Rave the Planet, a non-profit organization led by Dr Motte, the original founder of Love Parade, played a key role in advocating for this recognition. Following the announcement of this success, both Rave the Planet and the Berlin Clubcommission released statements celebrating this milestone.
