Interview with EDX

Hello Maurizio, how do you spend your summer so far and how do you balance tourlife with free time, if you have some? 🙂

It’s been an amazing summer! I decided to spend a few weeks traveling with my family, seeing as my son is starting school and we wouldn’t have this opportunity in the future. We were in Italy and Ibiza and it was really special and a great time meeting up with friends around the world. I played at Pacha in Ibiza and Street Parade in Zurich, so it was nice to balance work and family time around the world.

Congratulations on your No Xcuses 700 stream! How does it feel to reach this incredible milestone?

It felt like the right thing to do when I started No Xcuses around 13 years ago. It was a combination of wanting to showcase music, as well as giving back to fans and staying connected with a weekly hour-long show.

For the 700th episode, it was great to travel to Bali to scout for locations for this special stream. Connecting such an epic location and venue with the EDX journey, it feels great to reach this milestone 🙂

Looking back on 13 years of No Xcuses, what were some of the highlights for you?

We have had so many! We had No Xcuses in LA, Las Vegas, a bus tour in North America, and a residency in the world’s biggest club Privilege Ibiza. Looking back it has been amazing and a lot of fun, combining music with a lot of cities all over the world. For myself, the dedication to searching and listening to new music every week and making sure I keep the energy and quality without fail. And of course, reaching episode 700 too 🙂

How do you keep your creative process fresh and innovative after so many years in the industry?

I am lucky that I have a wide variety of roles and responsibilities in my career, on the label and publishing side, and I work with a lot of great talents in a managerial position which I have been doing for over 30 years. I began managing artists in 1994 with my first artist, who became a very successful act. It keeps me very balanced and allows me to always be creative. I think innovation is always a great focus of mine, and as an artist, I want to always keep things interesting and fresh.

Where do you see the future of electronic music heading, and how do you plan to adapt to those changes?

I try not to adapt too much, but I just do what I feel comfortable with. I try to keep to my foundations and try to steer a little bit away from social media and influencer movement. I am a DJ and music lover at heart.

I think musically we are heading in a more chilled direction. Of course, the younger generation wants a little harder beats, but overall I like the mellow sounds that are becoming more popular again.

What’s the best piece of advice you have for aspiring producers?

It is very important to master your skill, but before you do that, you need to discover your sound and connect with that on a deep level. Always try to do your own thing and not follow the trends.

Can you tease any upcoming projects or collaborations?

We have been releasing a lot of records, but I am sure there will be a vocal release coming soon in the fall. I just released my new single ‘Longlivedad’, which I am really excited about and excited to see how people react to it too.

Thank you, Maurizio, and have a wonderful rest of the summer! 🙂
