Interview With Marasi:

How did your journey into electronic music begin, and who were your biggest influences?

My love for electronic music started at a very early age when I would listen to radio shows that introduced me to new sounds and rhythms. Growing up, my father’s passion for music had a profound impact on me—he collected vinyls spanning blues, rock, and disco from the late ’60s and ’70s. His diverse record collection and enthusiasm for different genres sparked my curiosity. Over time, I gravitated toward the energetic and evolving world of electronic music, drawn in by the creative possibilities it offered.

You’ve been featured in Shazam’s Fast Forward 2025 list, placing you among the top breakthrough artists for next year. How does it feel to receive this recognition?

It’s both humbling and exciting to be recognized by Shazam’s Fast Forward 2025 list. For me, this acknowledgment serves as a major milestone and a chance to share my music with a wider audience. I’ve been working diligently in the studio, pouring my energy into each production, so seeing my name alongside other breakthrough artists is an incredible boost. It inspires me to keep pushing boundaries and creating music that resonates with people around the world.

Your tracks are played by names like Solomun, Black Coffee, and Damian Lazarus. What was your reaction the first time you saw a major DJ supporting your music?

The first time I discovered Solomun was playing one of my tracks, I was scrolling through Instagram and stumbled upon a video of him dropping it in his set. It was a surreal moment—part excitement, part disbelief. As a producer, having a respected artist champion your music is one of the greatest validations of your work. It’s an emotional experience too, because you pour your heart into every track, and to see it connect with both the DJ and the crowd confirms that all your efforts are worthwhile.

‘Zuri EP’ is out now! What was your vision behind it, and how has the reaction been so far?

The Zuri EP features two tracks: Zuri and Sahara. With Zuri, my aim was to craft a house track that feels both aggressive and melodic, blending Afro-inspired rhythms with distinctive musical elements. I wanted it to be powerful enough for the dancefloor, yet still carry a sense of emotional depth. Meanwhile, Sahara is a collaboration with Liva K that began with a set of melancholic chords I composed. We both felt an immediate connection to the melodies, which made the collaboration feel effortless and genuine. So far, the response has been amazing—DJs are playing it in different corners of the world, and listeners have reached out to say how much they enjoy the balance of intensity and melody. It’s validating to see that people connect with the vision we had from the start.

Pablo Fierro invited you to perform at his ‘We’re Here’ residency at Club Chinois in Ibiza. What was that experience like, and how did performing at such a renowned venue influence your music and performance style?

Playing in Ibiza for the first time felt like a dream come true, especially at a venue like Club Chinois, known for its top-tier sound and lighting. Pablo Fierro has always been an inspiration to me, particularly in the Afro-Latin and Afro-House realms. Being invited by someone I admire made the experience even more special. During my set, I showcased many of my upcoming and unreleased tracks to give the audience a true taste of my evolving sound. The energy in the room was electric—Ibiza crowds are incredibly open-minded and passionate about music. Seeing people embrace my tracks confirmed that I was on the right path and encouraged me to keep experimenting and refining my live performances.

Any collaborations or upcoming projects we should be excited about?

I’m thrilled about a track called “Rastaman”, which will be released on RISE (Berlin). It’s probably the most club-oriented piece I’ve produced so far. I’ve been road-testing it for about a year, and the crowd reactions have been phenomenal—there’s a certain energy that just ignites the dancefloor. It’s scheduled for release on March 7th, and it’s already catching the attention of several international DJs. I can’t wait for everyone to hear it in its final form.

Afro House is gaining more mainstream attention. Where do you see the genre heading in the next few years?

It’s exciting to witness Afro-House becoming more mainstream, as it introduces the genre to audiences who might not have encountered it otherwise. I believe we’ll see even more fusion in the coming years, with producers incorporating elements from different musical styles to create new sub-genres. Artists like Keinemusik have already paved the way, landing on major charts and showing what’s possible. I wouldn’t be surprised if more pop artists begin integrating Afro-House rhythms into their radio hits. This crossover can only help the scene grow, offering more opportunities for producers like me to showcase our unique approach to Afro House.

What’s next for Marasi in 2025—any goals, dream collaborations, or surprises on the horizon?

My biggest goal is to continue playing larger events and festivals, bringing my music to new audiences worldwide. While I don’t have a specific “dream collaboration” in mind, working with legendary vocalists or instrumentalists who bring a fresh perspective would be incredible. Beyond that, my team and I are preparing to release two tracks that we hope will surprise both my existing fans and the wider Afro House community. I’m eager to push my sound further, experiment with new ideas, and keep delivering music that resonates on a deeper level.

Thank you for having me! I’m excited about what the future holds and can’t wait to share more of my journey with everyone!
