Martin Jensen: Sommer Ray Completely Blew Me Out Of The Water

internationally acclaimed Danish DJ and producer Martin Jensen joins forces with social media icon-turned-music sensation Sommer Ray for their electrifying new track, No Sleep. This feel-good anthem blends Jensen’s signature uplifting house beats with Sommer’s deep-rooted passion for music, creating a dynamic fusion of dancefloor energy and heartfelt pop. Loudlife had the chance to sit down with Martin and Sommer to talk about their collaboration.
Interview with Martin Jensen and Sommer Ray:

Martin and Sommercongratulations on your new track, ‘No Sleep’! What inspired this team-up, and how did your unique styles come together to create this feel-good hit?

Martin: I am always looking to work with artists that I haven’t before and Sommer’s direction into music was super interesting to me. When we linked up on ideas, it was refreshing to bring both of our sounds together but with an edge that complimented each other. We knew we wanted to create something that was feel-good and almost “bright” with these other elements – like the uplifting piano melody and slight country vibe on the vocal – that would appeal to both dance and pop fans.

Sommer: I have always wanted to work on something that had a bit of country influence, and when my team suggested working with Martin, it seemed like the perfect fit! My favorite type of music is country and it has always held a special place in my life.

You both have such different backgrounds—Martin from the dance music world and Sommer as a social media sensation. What’s something surprising you learned about each other during this Collaboration?

Martin: The surprise for me was that I didn’t know how we would work together, and she completely blew me out of the water. Her work ethic and creativity were both higher than high and showed what a great collaborator she was to connect with.

Sommer: It was Martin’s fluidity and how naturally we worked together! We managed to send ideas back and forth and he really executed my input and our collective vision with ease – it was a lot of fun!

Martin, your music often strikes a balance between radio-friendly pop and dancefloor energy. How do you decide the direction of a new track?

Thank you! That is exactly what I aim for, even though some lean more into other avenues. For example, my next release out on Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike’s Smash The House label takes a lot more of a bombastic, jump-up dance route that has a faster BPM and high energy. That will be ‘Pharmacy’ with 22Bullets out on December 13th! I am always experimenting in the studio with both a mixture of dance and pop music, each track takes on a life and a form of its own wherever that may be.

Sommer,  this is a big step from social media into music production. What motivated you and how has your audience responded to your musical journey so far?

I’ve always wanted to be involved in music. DJing has been such an amazing blessing and I’ve had so much fun, and now beginning to get into production has been awesome! Social audiences are skeptical of me venturing into new areas, and like I said, people have put me in a box for so long. It’s definitely a mission to be seen outside that box, but it’s all about trusting the process and enjoying the ride!

Martin and Sommer, what message or vibe did you want to share through this track?

Martin: To bring a feel-good, playful release to brighten up the darker months for everyone and closeout 2024 with a bang!

Sommer: The aim is always to get people to forget their worries and dance the night away – but remember, ‘No Sleep’! 😉

Martin and Sommer, looking ahead, can we expect more collaborations between the two of you? Or perhaps some live performances of ‘No Sleep’ together?

Martin: I always love collaborating and it was a joy to work with Sommer, who knows what will be in store in 2025!

Sommer: Martin is a super talented producer and it’s been an honor to be involved in this project! Fingers crossed we get to continue doing cool things together!

Martin, What was the most memorable or fun moment you had while working with Sommer on track ‘No Sleep’?

That would be just experiencing how her creativity unfolded. This was our first collaboration together and it was important for us to both put our stamp on it effectively but also give each other space for expression. From producing to the topline and overall direction of the track, we were totally on the same page from the word ‘Go!’ and I’m super proud of the final result!

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

I think I’d like artists and fans to embrace the direction that music and music creation are heading in a lot more. Music is one of the most interesting and important creative sectors and something that everyone on the planet – no matter what genre – has an interest in. For me, I’m really excited to see where AI and new technology will take us in the future.

What’s one thing your fans might be surprised to learn about you?

I’m a really big Taylor Swift fan! I’d love to remix some of her music, one day.

What has been your proudest achievement in music so far?

I think just being able to be in the industry as long as I have, with my fans still by my side. I love that I get to do this as a career and wouldn’t change it for the world.

What does a typical day in Martin Jensen’s life look like when you’re not touring or in the studio?

I make as much time for my loved ones as I can, my daughter and my wife are my priorities in life and my biggest achievement.

Sommer, who’s more likely to fall asleep in the studio: you or Martin?

Depends on how long we’re in the studio! But remember, no sleep 😉

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

What’s the weirdest DM you’ve ever received about your music career?

I definitely get a bunch of crazy comments on my posts from followers. I feel like they’ve tried to put me in a box for so long, the reaction to getting involved in music was intense at first, but I feel like they’re coming around to it!

What’s harder: mixing tracks or coming up with a perfect Instagram caption?

Definitely captions haha!

What’s one thing your fans would never guess about you?

I used to be a rat breeder!  When I was a kid I would breed my pet rats. Not a lot of people know that!
