INTERVIEW with WAVE WAVE
Although the summer season in Europe has been over for a few months now, you had the chance to perform in what I think is the best club in the world, Pacha in Ibiza. How was that experience?
Pacha Ibiza is one of the best clubs I’ve ever had the pleasure of playing as a DJ. The entire island has a deep love for house music, attracting people from all over the world who come to celebrate both the DJs and the music they bring to life. For me, Pacha was the ultimate place to showcase and experiment with new tracks and IDs. The crowd isn’t there for the same overplayed chart remixes—they crave fresh, exciting sounds that push the boundaries of the dance floor.
Your current sound is, in my opinion, one of the freshest these days, although I feel it’s gaining more traction in the U.S. than here. What’s your take on that?
Thanks so much! Yeah, I kind of agree with that. There are plenty of amazing places in Europe, especially Ibiza, for example. But right now, I think the US is one of the best places for Tech House. Big names are selling out arenas there, which isn’t really happening in Europe. So, I really hope to spend more time there next year!

Your latest release, the legendary combination of Wave Wave, Genesi, and Roland Clark’s Phone’s Down, is being played worldwide by some of the biggest names. What do you think is behind the success of this track?
I believe the success of Phones Down began right from the production process with Genesi and Roland. Roland sent me an incredible vocal that touched on a topic every DJ can relate to right now—no one is dancing; everyone is just staring at their phones. Genesi and I built a driving production around that powerful vocal, refining it throughout the summer. We each tested it at least 20 times until we finally landed on the perfect version, which is now released.
Recently, you shared on Instagram a sneak peek of unreleased tracks you’ve been keeping in the drawer. We assume you plan to release them throughout 2025. Can we look forward to something big? Whether it’s a new label or notable collaborations worth mentioning?
Yes, absolutely! I’m currently working on a lot of new music and feel like I’ve finally found the right direction for both my productions and the sound I want to play as a DJ.
My first release of 2025 will be a track that John Summit has been playing throughout the year—a new collaboration with Sam Collins called Dale. I’m really excited about this one!
On top of that, one of my biggest idols, Solomun, is currently playing one of my tracks, which has always been a huge goal for me.

Times are fast-paced, and musical trends change quickly. Tell us more about the evolution of your sound and your beginnings. When we look back at your first releases in 2017, your sound was quite different! Is Wave Wave your first project, or were you working on something else before that?
Yes, things were definitely a bit different back then. I started out as Wave Wave, producing more Tropical Chill House and dance-pop tracks. But over the years, as I played more as a DJ, I realized I couldn’t even play my own tracks because they were too laid-back. That’s when I started producing more Tech House, and I immediately fell in love with working on synths and drums rather than relying on the perfect topline. This underground sound also feels more true to my roots—when I first started making music, I was all about weird dark trap beats and finding new sounds, and I still find elements of that creeping into my productions today. Tech House and Melodic Techno were also the genres I loved listening to when I went out back in Berlin, so moving in that direction felt natural. Honestly, it would probably be easier to get bookings in Germany if I had stuck with my old radio-friendly sound, but taking the easy route was never really my thing.
Every guest in our interviews gets this question: a dream collaboration with an artist, singer, or band. If you could choose your top three, who would they be?
- Mau P – His tracks and the way he plays are just insane. A collab with him is definitely on my bucket list.
- Solomun – That would be an absolute dream!
- A bit outside the box, but definitely Bon Iver – I’d love to hear what a track with him would sound like. I think it could be something truly amazing.
Our magazine is followed by many up-and-coming producers, and I also consider myself part of the category of those hoping to break through. What advice do you have for someone who doesn’t know how to market their music or wants to take their career to the next level?
The most important thing: Keep going! I’ve been producing music for over 10 years now, and it’s a long journey. But as long as you keep creating, learning, and playing what you love, it will pay off one day. Don’t get caught up in what other DJs have achieved—just focus on your own path
As 2024 comes to an end, what would you say were your top three performances this year? And can you share any plans for 2025?
- Pacha Ibiza – All five shows were incredible; I loved every minute of them.
- My China debut in Shanghai** – Playing at Another Side was unreal; the energy was out of this world.
- Supporting Robin Schulz at Stereo Live in Houston – Even as the warm-up act, the experience was absolutely amazing.
In 2025, my main focus will be producing new music and playing more gigs in the U.S. I’m also finishing up a new music studio in my hometown, a project I’ve been working on for over a year now. I’m really excited to finally open it!
Once again, thank you for the interview, and we wish you lots of success!
Thank you for having me!
